Inspired by Bon Appetit’s summer issue, I was determined to make my ultimate hot dog topping. Call me old fashioned, I do love ketchup and mustard so I was not willing to give that up! I went for caramelized onions for sweetness to contrast the acidity of the other toppings and chopped pickles to mimic relish. What would be your ultimate hot dog topping be?

Ingredients
- 1 large red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 large pickle, diced
- Ketchup
- Mustard
Instructions
- In a saute pan over medium high heat, melt the butter. Add the onions and saute until they start to crisp. Lower the heat, and stir the onions occasionally, until they are caramelized. This will take 20 or so minutes if you want them perfectly golden.
- To decorate your hot dog, drizzle ketchup and mustard. Top with caramelized onions and finish with the pickles.
- Serve and enjoy!
